To support the Garden Grove High School
Interact Club fund raiser project for Ralston Junior
High, the Garden Grove Rotary Club became the chief
cooks and bottle washers on Saturday May 12th. The
cooks are Errol Giuliano, Bryon Holt, Howard Kunihiro,
Joe Hammer, Scott Weimer, Steve Larson, Jesse James and
Dwight Tompkins. We did not make our target of one hundred thousand dollars, but we had a lot of fun. |
| Bree Morse, the club
sweetheart, came by to tell us about her year as Miss
Garden Grove. It has been a busy year with
all of the City and civic functions on her
schedule. We have asked her to help us with our
steak dinner fund raiser and our mixer and she has been
there for us. She thanked us for sponsoring her in
the Miss Garden Grove Pageant and is now preparing for
the Miss California contest to be held in Fresno later
this year. Her theme or platform is
Operation Gratitude. Her hat is off to the
thousands of selfless men and women who daily risk their
lives for our security. Bree, we wish you a
great deal of success in your quest to become Miss
California. You are encouraged to come visit Vicki
and the old trolls for lunch anytime. Jarrod M. Hahn a prospective new member was an honored guest for lunch. Please check the calendar page the have been several changes. For example, Pancakes not WAPI for breakfast on May 5th at Bolsa Grande High School. We will make WAPIs on May 26th. We could stand some help. |

![]() Eric Heigis President of Garden Grove Interact Club presents a check to A.J. Jackson the District Interact Governor and Rotary District Governor Greg Owen for the “Water For Sudan” project. Eric explains, "The idea came from the Interact District Leadership. They gave us a rough outline of how we could go about raising money to build water wells in South Sudan. The project was fully introduced at the District meeting in mid-December 2011. |
When school resumed after Christmas Break,
I met with the school’s Administration and Student
Leadership to lay out the plan my club and I came up
with. Our plan was to place envelopes in every
classroom, and have a pizza party as incentive for the
class that collected the most. They approved it. We
chose the last 3 weeks of January to carry out this
project. After help from my club passing out the
envelopes, it was up to the students and teachers to
raise money. They did not disappoint! We did one
collection half-way through the project to keep students
interested and determine a preliminary winner. At the
end of the 3 weeks, we gathered all the envelopes,
tallied up all the collections, and came up with a total
of $1,884. I can't explain the great turn out in any
other way than amazing. We delivered the first prize
(pizza) the next week, and gave a small prize to the
second and third place classes. As a thank-you, I
personally wrote a letter to the top 15 classrooms to
thank them for their great work." |

President’s Message The Garden Grove Rotary Club is a active Club with projects involving the Garden Grove Community, the youth of our community and the world community. Recently at our request the Garden Grove City Council proclaimed Sunday, October 24, 2010 as World Polio Day. Rotary International has been involved in eradicating polio since 1985. Today, most of the Earth's population lives in polio-free areas but there remain four countries where polio continues endemic. World Polio Day was designed to remind everyone that the job of polio eradication is not yet complete and we all remain at risk as long as polio exists anywhere. Garden Grove Rotary has been involved in polio eradication since its onset. Worldwide 2.8 million USD was raised to fight polio on October 24, 2010. Awareness of the problem death due to sudden cardiac arrest has led us to a project of providing Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and CPR training in Garden Grove. To date we have supplied AEDs to both gyms of the Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove, our community gym and the community center. Next we will be supplying one to the Acacia Adult Day Care Services. Interact Clubs are high school service clubs like Rotary Clubs. Currently, we have two high schools Interact Clubs and are in the process of forming a third. Together we will be going to help in the decoration of the Rotary International Rose Parade Float. The club has sister club relationships with Rotary Clubs in Cuidad Guzman, Mexico and Anyang, Korea. We travel to these areas almost yearly and have done many projects together. This is a
sampling of the many service projects we
do. Mainly we enjoy getting together with
our club members weekly, have a good time and
laugh a lot. Anyone
who either lives or works in Garden Grove is
eligible to join our club. We invite
anyone interested to join us to learn more about
Rotary or our club. We meet at the
Marriott Suites at the corner of Harbor and
Chapman Wednesday at noon. If interested
